 The 30th birthday for the Heart of Virginia festival turned out to be a wonderful day. The weather was perfect and there were more vendors and activities than ever before.

The evening of March 15 saw the best of the best in the Virginia newspaper world gathered at the Hotel Roanoke in Roanoke, Virginia.
Competing in more than forty-three categories, daily and weekly papers across the state submitted entries to the 2007 VPA News, Editorial and Photo contest. Newspapers are judged within their own specifications, that is, daily and non-daily and those further broken down by circulation numbers.

The Board of Directors of SCOPE/Meals On Wheels has named Burger King of Farmville (owned by Carolina Quality, Inc. of Henderson, NC) as its Sponsor/Donor of the Year for 2008.
Since March of 2006, Burger King has held a special night for Meals On Wheels on the first Thursday of each month. Burger King donates a percentage of its profits on the first Thursday (5 to 9 p.m. including the drive-thru). These funds help to pay the cost of meals for seniors and the handicapped who are unable to fully pay for the service.

Farmville’s Heart of Virginia Festival is celebrating
its 30th birthday on Saturday, May 3, this year with a day-long party
in front of Longwood University’s Grainger Hall on High Street. All the
activities and displays will honor the thirty year history of the
festival in creative and festive ways.

Thanks to a crowd of 140 folks, and ticket sales of more than 170, SCOPE/MOW will realize a profit of in excess of $24,000 from the Fiesta for Meals On Wheels. This includes ticket sales, sponsorships, sales of auction items, balloons etc.
